Have you ever had the experience of getting tantalisingly close to a big opportunity in your creative career – but not quite making it?
Maybe it was a pitch, or a competition, a publishing opportunity, a senior role, or a funding application.
Maybe you got really positive feedback. They said you were great, your work was great. But for one reason or another, it wasn’t a ‘yes’ this time.
At this point, it’s easy to feel like giving up. It feels like you threw everything at it, and it still wasn’t enough.
But if you look carefully at the outcome, it may well be telling you that you are in the ballpark.
This is something I come across a lot with my coaching clients – it’s easy to be discouraged when you miss a big opportunity, but it’s also essential to be clear about what it means. Because things may not be as bleak as they feel when you first get the bad news.
So I’ve made a short video about this, on my new YouTube channel: Are You in the Ballpark?
Watch the video to learn:
- Why it matters whether you are in the ballpark.
- Three signs that you are in the ballpark.
- What to do if you discover you are in the ballpark.
Finally – The 21st Century Creative on YouTube!
Yes, that’s right, I have a brand new YouTube channel, so I can share videos like this with you.
Subscribe to The 21st Century Creative YouTube channel to get my future videos as soon as I release them.
When you look at the channel, you’ll see I’ve also uploaded all the past episodes of The 21st Century Creative podcast. And I’ve created a set of playlists to make it easy for you to do a ‘deep dive’ on the topics that interest you most.
So if you want to listen to all the episodes about unconventional career paths, or marketing or leadership or personal development for creatives you can do that.
I’ve also grouped the interviews by the guests’ creative disciplines. So if you want to listen to all my interviews with writers, or with artists, musicians, designers, performers, filmmakers, creative entrepreneurs, or coaches, you’ll find playlists for all of these.
And if you like any of the videos on the channel, it would be really helpful if you would, you know, like them. 🙂
I hope you enjoy the YouTube channel. Launching it feels like a great way to start 2024, and I look forward to sharing more insights and interviews with you via video as well as the podcast.
Wishing you a creative and fulfilling New Year,
Mark
PS Yes, I’m still going to continue the audio podcast! I’ll shortly start work on the next chapter of The 21st Century Creative podcast.
