Brilliant! This series i a very comprehensive insight on the creativity process pictured by a great story.
Personally, i found having a well organized and daily routine for workdays most helpful to stay highly productive and even innovative. Breaking this routine on days where i do not work seems as important.

Wow - this post really brought the whole series together for me. I'm in the camp that finds the revelations quite inspiring - that to become a creative visionary genius the steps are reasonable, logical, and I dare say achieveable!

If you didn't need a reason to get your office in order, do some networking, or work on your next marketing strategy, you certainly have one now!

Thanks guys, glad to hear the 'unromantic' version is inspiring to others!

Glen - Let's hope we turn out to be one of the 'fittest'. :-)

Is a flash of insight even possible without all of the research going on beforehand? Perhaps the flash is the moment that the brain finally puts all the pieces of the puzzle together correctly, but without the pieces to assemble, there is no final picture.

This was a wonderful series. Beautifully written, researched and presented.

This is an excellent demonstration of the "unromantic" side of creativity -- the routine, the studying, etc. The way you've dissected various parts of the exhibit is fascinating. I especially like the points about reaching out to others, and about analogy.

I don't find this disheartening. Rather, it shows what can be done with a combination of hard work and a readiness to use your tools and information unconventionally as well.

Conor - glad you liked it, sorry about the dinner. :-)

Duff - 'the rabbit hole of his bliss' - great phrase! I might use that... with attribution of course.

Tim - glad you agree about the inspiration.

Tito - my pleasure, as always. The takeaways keep me focused!

Demian - you have my permission to take it easy in the service of your muse. ;-)

Once again, good work.

"take time off to read books and watch movies that have nothing to do with your work. You may make some surprising discoveries."

That's were I fail so much...and am threatened by burnout.
