Hi Nelson,

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. I think on this occasion we may have to agree to disagree about a few things ... Tolstoy, for example, was a rich and privileged aristocrat.

I'm all for magic and dreaming, but most of the geniuses I've come across also seem to work very hard -- I don't think that's a coincidence. ;-)

however we can't deny that poverty ( not necessarily financial poverty ) has given us some of the greatest works of arts ( check tolstoi , dostoievski , and others , I don't know art but I'm sure there are some great painters that had various issues as well ) .

I'm still a dreamer ... I still believe that great works of art come at a flash of pure genius . and pain , of various type , seems to be , in most cases , a must .

but I also split this area in two parts : good and great . great requires genius ... good requires discipline , hard work and such .

I have always had creative dreams from the first moment I stepped into this existence. I have never held back when pursuing my latest creative dream - i poured everything I had into my latest passion - and achieved success beyond my wildest expectations - I am 46 now and have had 5 distinctly different highly successful careers - I have continued to recreate myself in an effort to reach an imago - the moment when everything shifts - I can remember 5 moments when I just new this was the moment - only to feel a sense of lack - so on to the next thing - NO MORE - I out of sheer frustration allowed myself to let go of the dreams, - and I suddenly realized that I was limited by my imagination for 2 years I could not get anything to spark - having argued my limitation it became just that and then .... i met my ego .... it seemed any thought or anything I did was shrouded in my ego - i was obsessed with my ego self and conquering my ego like I have so many other things -but I couldn't - then when I just finally admitted defeat for the first time and let go of everything - dreams - I did nothing ----- soon after that moment I began to sense movement - I didn't know what it was so I didn't have control - nothing, I did nothing for the first time and by doing nothing I now realize we do everything. My creative "dream" is manifesting effortlessly - I took the long way by taking a first step - had I not taken that first step toward my creative "dream" i would not have felt the need to ueberachieve at so many different things or dreams - I have learned the difference between dreams and thought - and how they are two similar yet entirely different states of being - I now spend my day with the knowing that all thought is creative and I am creative - I hope this makes some sense - it is just now starting to for me at 46 because i have no imagination therefore -----i am and I am loving every moment

Ha ha. I wrote the book, and then I spent just as long editing it down to something readable - but then I didn't get past that.

There's three stages really, idea, make the creative idea a reality, then to market, to market.

Guess I should actually start trying to sell it hey!

Excellent post Mark and I love Lateral Action. Great title and sums up the dichotomy brilliantly. I was challanged on a defintion a couple of weeks ago, the person indicated that I had implied creativity is purely a right brain directed pursuit....
It is tough for some people to understand how the left brain is absolutely vital is terms of evaluating and measuring your ideas but also to enable realisation.

I agree (of course) with Roger that is the other qualitites that allow creatives to bring deas to fruiton.

I love your "your book doesnt exist"
Hope you are well

Joe - 'But I’m not looking for good ideas right, I’m looking for one or two great ones.' - That's the spirit!

I usually have more ideas than I can physically execute, I find it helps to capture them in a folder, which gets them off my mind and means they'll be waiting for me if/when I come back to them with more time and resources.

I resonate most with Cynthia and Darren. These ideas can be a heavy burden. I'm in my early 20s and feel like it's especially hard now. Without stability in life, and without some of the skills or accountability structures (or funds!) to follow ideas through, a lot of good ones have to be left behind. It's a painful for me to do, to drop my ideas, my babies, by the wayside.
