As a person who has one foot in the creative camp and the other in the concrete world of facts, I am always trying to make sure the creative side gets its property time. A mundane routine no matter what would never come across my mind and to a certain extend neither would a Creative Ritual. Maybe that is because I am always trying to take my mundane world of facts and make them exciting. There is one exception. When I am preparing for a speaking event, I love to go by any body of water and if the waves are loud enough, shout my presentation to them. It lets me get the emotion out that I want and help with my pace. If no crashing of waves is available, then I do the speech in my head. I guess we all have our creative rituals!

Keep up the inspiration work Mark!

Good article... I agree on your "Creative Ritual" idea. Simply put it this way: if you play a game on playstation, you need to "save" your last game to the memory card, before you'll be able to "load" it. We try to "load" all the time (Appreciative Inquiry, etc), but we never really "save" our accomplishment. Save your game with "Creative Rituals" so you can move on to the next level...

daily rituals of a graphical designer

3 cups of strong black coffee each with an equally strong french cigarette.

Read Lateral Action feeds (really)
Read BBC news feed

check my deviant art page and channels

upgrade Wordpress Installs and plugins

20 minute walk with my hyperactive french bulldog

shower

clean my mx Revolution mouse, clean my wacom tablett

look at my desktop screen and the tao teh ching quote (verse 23) I loosely translate as "The Steady Force of Attitude"

only then can I begin to create

Sonia, Chris - sounds like you already have some pretty good rituals. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate - a special brand of tea or lifting weights is a perfectly good alternative to goat sacrifice. :-)
